Kirurumu Ngorongoro Camp is a small, intimate, canvas accommodation, pitched in a delightfully scenic grove between the western side of the Ngorongoro Highlands bordering Lake Eyasi and the Ngorongoro Crater – all part of the Great African Rift Valley.
Because of the high staff ratio to a small number of guests, personal attention and service are exemplary; guests staying here also enjoy an authentic African safari tented experience in Ngorongoro with an ethnic ambience.
From this strategic base, you can access many fascinating destinations on your tour of Tanzanian wildlife and ecology havens from the diverse crater floor, trekking Mount Makarot and Olmoti, evolutionary visit to the Ol Duvai Gorge, en-culturing experience with the Maasai community and many more. Kirurumu Ngorongoro Camp safaris with AfricanMecca also offer convenient access to Lake Manyara, beloved of writer Ernest Hemingway, and breeding ground of thousands of wading birds, including pink flamingos, on its island pockets, where they are protected by its high salinity from intrusive predators.
Safaris from the camp primarily includes a game viewing trip to Ngorongoro Crater, a majestic collapsed volcano with unbroken caldera rim, a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site enclosing the greatest wildlife concentration to be found in Africa. The camp is reached by road from Arusha or air to the local airstrip in Manyara, then overland across grassy plains and through highland forests and farms of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, when you may be able to spot the few animals, giraffe, topi, impala, and oribi as well as crocodile (Lake Masek) that cannot subsist in the crater.
You will also see Maasai with their cattle in the conservation area where indigenous people are encouraged to pursue their traditional way of life in harmony with wildlife conservation and tourist initiatives.
